Data reduction scripts using MIRIAD and CSH

The STING pipeline reduction script is ccalib.csh, which performs calibration and mapping of a single trial (track) using the MIRIAD package.  It can be downloaded here: If several trials were taken in succession, they can be given as a comma-separated list under the file parameter, and they will be merged.

Parameters are given at the top of the script, but can be also given on the command line.  The latter is strongly recommended: put the script somewhere in your path, and drive it using another script, such as that given below.  That way, upgrading the basic script should be relatively painless.  Use device=/null to execute a fully non-interactive reduction.

Some of the scripts require antenna position correction files which can be found here.  For standard STING processing, we use 10 km/s channels (delv=10) and apply Hanning smoothing before calibrating the data (hanning=y).  If you are making an overlay with cgdisp, the point19.olay file, showing the 10m pointing centers, may be useful.

Once the individual tracks are reduced, the 13CO or CO data for a particular galaxy are imaged together using the ccombine.csh script in a separate directory.

The pipeline script is general enough to be applied to most CARMA observations, including those in the "hybrid" correlator mode, subject to the following caveats:

  1. Channel maps are made in velocity space, and only one rest frequency is supported.  Continuum or multi-line observations are thus not fully imaged, though the script will calibrate them properly.
  2. The noise source is not used in passband calibration.  Thus, it is assumed that the astronomical passband is adequate.
  3. Only one spectral window is used in gain calibration.  In principle, once all channel-based gains are accounted for, all windows can be merged into a "superwideband" channel.

Questions and bug reports should be directed to the author, Tony Wong (wongt -at- illinois.edu).  If you publish data reduced using these scripts, an acknowledgment would be appreciated.
